Former White Sox infielder Angela Stubbs' automatic home run was inspirational as her Hawke's Bay team Dodgers made an unbeaten start at the national women's softball interclubs in the Hutt Valley yesterday.

Stubbs, who is playing alongside her daughter and fellow infielder Brooke Eden, smashed the automatic at Fraser Park during Dodgers' six inning 11-4 win against Canterbury's Richmond. Dodgers coach and Junior White Sox assistant coach Kevin Gettins said Stubbs' automatic home run inspired the side to bat well through the order all day.

"There was some good team batting in our 6-2 win against Porirua also," he said.

Gettins' daughter and Junior White Sox pitcher Courtney Gettins pitched against Richmond and shared the mound with Ash Harmer against Porirua. Dodgers will play Johnsonville and Auckland Ramblers today.

One of the tournament favourites, Ramblers, recorded two losses yesterday - 4-2 against Porirua and 7-4 against Otahuhu. Former Bay pitcher Michal Tangaroa and fellow White Sox hurler Michelle Kingi pitched for Ramblers.
