He wasn't going to beat around the bush - Chris McIvor, that is.

"We were pretty lucky to get away with three points after starting well for 20 minutes and pretty average for the rest of the game," said the Your Solutions Taradale player/coach after they pipped Team Taranaki 2-1 at home in Napier.

McIvor felt the wet conditions didn't help their cause but they were looking forward to travelling to Skoglund Park against Palmerston North Marist this Saturday from 2.45pm.

Win-less after a 3-0 loss to North End and a 1-1 draw against another Palmy side, Red Sox, Taranaki coach Tim McGrath said they were gutted not to return with at least a point against Dale.

"We hit the post, a goal was disallowed and we dominated for about 70 minutes with possession and territory," McGrath said of a team who lost their Central League perch to Vale three seasons ago.

A poor 10-minute spell gifted the hosts two goals, he lamented.

Taradale 2 (Phil Dol, Rhys Corbin) Taranaki 1 (Brad Hickling). HT: 2-1.
