The All Blacks third grand slam which was secured with yesterday's 32-6 victory against England was an historic occasion for one of New Zealand's proudest rugby schools, Te Aute College.
When Piri Weepu took the field as a substitute at Twickenham it was the first time two Te Aute College old
boys faced each other in an international rugby clash as Riki Flutey was playing second five-eighth for England.
Both Weepu and Flutey have led the haka for various teams - Weepu in recent times for the All Blacks while one of Flutey's most memorable ones was before the 1999 New Zealand under-19 World Cup side won their final. For several seasons the pair were Hurricanes teammates.
Flutey, a younger brother of former Magpies first five-eighth Mano Flutey, attended Te Aute College from 1992-1997 and Weepu from 1997-2001. When Weepu was a year nine student Flutey was one of his heroes in the 1st XV as both players were first five-eighths back then.
Both players are former Te Aute College 1st XV captains and former Hawke's Bay Secondary Schools team captains.
