Hawke's Bay lost 29-0 to Wellington in the final of the Hurricanes under-16 rugby tournament in the capital yesterday.
Both teams were unbeaten before their match at the Petone Recreation Ground. Five members of the Breakers Cafe & Bar Hawke's Bay side were named in the tournament team.
They wereTaradale High School prop Sean Morrison, the Napier Boys' High School pair of lock Edwin Laver and first five-eighth Caleb Makene, Lindisfarne College loosie Hugh Renton and St John's College midfield back Jonah Lowe. Despite playing in a losing pack Morrison was again powerful at scrum time.
Laver had a huge workrate and displayed plenty of ticker against bigger opponents while Renton, who played at openside flanker in the final, went close to winning the player-of-the-tournament award which was collected by a Wellington player. Renton was forced to leave the field with an injury yesterday which harmed his chances. Wellington led 12-0 at halftime in the final which was played in wet conditions.
