She is owned by Hawke's Bay Racing committeeman Charlie Whyte in partnership with Hamish and Sarah Whyte, from Havelock North, Wellington-based Malcolm Whyte and Dean and Pip McCarroll, who live on the Kapiti Coast. Pimms Time is certainly bred to be good as her dam, Brampton Legs, is a Zabeel mare who won two races and is a full-sister to 2005 Caulfield Cup winner Railings.
It is also the family of the champion Australian racemare Emancipation, who won 19 races.
Guy Lowry said yesterday Pimms Time will now be aimed at a Rating 75 1400m race at Tauherenikau on November 24.
The Lowry/Cullen stable has sent two horses, Double O Seven and Mink, south for this year's New Zealand Cup meeting in Christchurch.
Double O Seven finished seventh in last Saturday's Gold Club Metropolitan Trophy (2500m), the traditional lead-up to this Saturday's Group 3 $225,000 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup (3200m).
The No Excuse Needed 7-year-old has been a model of consistency this season, returning a dividend eight times from his last nine starts, and Lowry said he needed the run on Saturday as he had done very well since arriving in Christchurch.
Lisa Allpress was aboard Double O Seven last Saturday but has opted to ride Blood Brotha in the Cup so Matt Cameron will be the new rider.
Mink lines up in today's listed $55,000 Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders Stakes, with her connections hoping she can pick up some black type in the 1400m event. The Scaredee Cat mare is coming off an unlucky last-start fourth over 1200m at Trentham on October 27 and will be ridden by in-form jockey Jason Waddell.
Powerful sprint success
The old adage that good stayers sprint well fresh certainly rang true when Hawke's Bay-bred Powerplaya scored an upset win in a 1350m Rating 75 race at last Wednesday's Waikato meeting at Paeroa.
The 5-year-old was having his first start since winning a 2100m race at Tauranga back in April and was overlooked by punters, returning a win dividend of $23.50. It was his fourth success from 15 starts and his first at a distance less than 1600 metres. He recorded his maiden win over 1600 metres at Matamata in December 2010 and won his second race over 2000 metres there at Matamata in January.
Powerplaya is certainly bred to be a top stayer as he is by Bachelor Duke out of Repremand, making him a half-brother to the 2003 Sydney Cup winner Honor Babe.
He was bred by Pourerere's Sue Harty, who sold him privately as a young horse. He is now owned by a syndicate that includes former top trainer Jim Gibbs and is trained at Matamata by Ken and Bev Kelso.
Experienced jockey Michael Coleman rode Powerplaya at Paeroa and made full use of the horse's No1 barrier draw to have him trailing the leaders until the home turn. He then finished strongly up against the inside rail to win by a length.
Repremand has now been retired as a broodmare but has produced 14 foals. Honor Babe is easily the best of them, with her six wins also including the listed Marton Cup (2200m).
She was trained by Katrina Alexander.
Out On Bail (3 wins) and Bail Us Out (2 wins) are two of Repremand's daughters that Harty has bred from with good success over the years and she now has an unraced two-year-old gelding by Keeninsky out of the mare coming on.

The annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Racehorse Owners' Association will be held at the Hibernian Club, Hastings, tonight starting at 7pm.
All association members and other interested parties are invited to attend.
