Napier Boys' High School athletes won medals at the World School Orienteering Championships in Portugal at the weekend.
Jackson Plumpton won bronze in the junior boys' long-distance race. His schoolmates Fraser Geddes and Reuben Sweetapple were ninth and 11th respectively, the NBHS juniors taking silver behind Portugal on overall rankingsafter the middle and long-distance races.
Callum Herries was the best of the NBHS starters in the senior boys' long-distance race with a 10th. Devon Beckman was 15th and their team finished fourth.
Napier Girls' High School's senior and junior teams finished eighth. Georgia Creagh was the best of the juniors with a 12th and Brianna Massie the best of the seniors with a 16th.
NBHS juniors started the long-distance race in second place overall, after the middle-distance race at Algarve on the south coast. Sweetapple was the best Kiwi in the junior middle-distance race, fourth equal. His teammates, Will Tremain and Plumpton, were eighth and ninth respectively.
Beckman was the best NBHS senior runner with a 10th and Hamish Allen was 18th. Massie was 14th in the senior girls' middle-distance race and Creagh the best of the Kiwi juniors with a 20th.
Their teams were fifth and eighth respectively going into the long-distance race.
