"I can't wait to get out there and do what I do best."
Something Taumalolo, who will be playing his 52nd game for the Chiefs, does well is score tries. Should he dot down tonight it will be his 10th Super Rugby try of the season.
He has promised a try and if successful will join Hurricanes outside back Andre Taylor and Bulls outside back Bjorn Basson at the top of the tryscoring standings.
Taumalolo, 30, is confident there will be no repeat of the 2009 final he started in - the Chiefs 61-17 loss to the Bulls in Pretoria.
"That was disappointing. We were away from home. This time we've got a home game and we know we can do the job."
Hawke's Bay's 2012 coach-of-the-year and Chiefs assistant coach Tom Coventry pointed out the Chiefs have enjoyed "a fairytale-type" run to the final similar to what he and Peter Russell enjoyed in their first year coaching the Magpies back in 2007.
"Many pundits believed we were a bit green and it might take us two or three seasons to reach the playoffs. We've got a good coaching crew, new facilities and the boys have worked hard on their own as well as within the team environment.
"It has been a pleasure to be involved with the boys," Coventry said.
Samoa's forwards coach at last year's World Cup, Coventry, said his first season of Super Rugby coaching was different to the World Cup.
"We started this formidable journey back on October 4. It's a lot different to the World Cup, which was all over in a few weeks."
"Most of our players are from the ITM Cup and New Zealand Under-20s programme. New Zealand rugby would be lost without these two components."
Coventry said the Chiefs had been thrilled with the support they have received from the ANZ Netball Championship winning Magic side which is based within the Chiefs region.
"We're also taking plenty of inspiration from all of our Olympians. I was yelling at the television for the last 250m of Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan's gold medal-winning effort ... I had goose bumps as I watched their medal presentation," Coventry said.
He is thrilled Hawke's Bay has the biggest provincial representation in the Chiefs side, with seven. Props Taumalolo and Ben Tameifuna, No 8 Kane Thompson, lock Brodie Retallick and centre Andrew Horrell are all 2011 Magpies who will start for the Chiefs tonight.
Magpies hooker Hika Elliot is on the subs bench and winger Tino Nemani didn't make the 22 for the final.
Coventry praised Horrell's "fantastic job as a jack of all trades" player this season.
"He's the complete rugby player who has played centre, second five-eighth, fullback and first five-eighth for us this season. I reckon second five-eighth is his best position, but we've got a pretty good player in that role for us," Coventry said, referring to All Black Sonny Bill Williams.
"I'm picking Andrew will play the No12 role for the Magpies and he will have a bit more time and space there. The side will operate will with two receivers.
"But you never know. After this season he might say centre is his best spot."
