At least it wasn't a fifth consecutive second placing.
This was one consolation for captain and No1 Janie Field and her Hawke's Bay teammates to reflect upon as the national masters women's inter-provincial golf tournament ended in Feilding yesterday. The Bay team travelled to the three-day 14-team event with the
aim of improving upon four consecutive second placings but finished third equal with Taranaki, 16 points behind the winning Waikato team which included former Bay representative Jill Morgan.
"We started the final round in fifth place and ended third equal," Field said.
After three seconds and a third on the individual standings during the last four years, Field finished fourth, five points behind joint winners Robyn Pellow of Waikato and Robyn Boniface of Southland. Field's best round saw her score 34 stableford points during Saturday's second round.
Every team played four rounds and the top three stableford scores in each counted towards a team's final tally. In yesterday's final round No2 Lynne Roberts of the Hastings club top-scored for the Bay with 32, Field's Napier clubmate and No3 Vicky Turley scored 31 and Field 30.
