Hawke's Bay sailor David Tucker has become an Australian champion.
The 24-year-old Napier Sailing Club member on Thursday won the Flying Fifteen National title in Brisbane with crewmate Matt Summers, of Scotland.
The sailors both live and work in Perth and will now compete at the Flying Fifteen World Champs at Hayling
Island, off the south coast of England, in the next English summer.
The pair had such dominance (worst finish was third) that they had the title sewn up by race six and didn't have to race the last one yesterday in a fleet of 42 on Moreton Bay. ``Well, he raced the seventh one any way and won that too,'' his father, Bruce Tucker, of Puketapu, told SportToday.
The former Napier Boys' High School pupil, who won the national youth match racing class (starlings) while at school, left for Perth two years ago to work as a chemical engineer. He will marry his Perth fiancee in eight weeks.
