Cricket: NZ recall may fuel CD Hinds' campaign

The Central Districts Hinds have stuck with the same squad for the second round of their domestic season matches against the Auckland Hearts.

The Rachel Priest-captained Hinds play a Twenty20 match today from 2.30pm before playing successive one-day (50-over) matches at QEII Park, Masterton, tomorrow and Sunday.

CD lost a T20 and a one-day match in their opening round against the Wellington Blaze at Karori Park last weekend in what coach Mike Shrimpton has deemed a summer of "performance, not development".

This summer Wellington and Auckland are without any overseas imports while CD have Irish import Eimear Richardson.

If the weather forecast is anything to go by, it is unlikely there will be any play between CD and the Haidee Tiffen-coached Hearts with rain and southerlies expected to lash the region.

Tomorrow fines up but there's a risk of rain and wind on Sunday, again.

On the bright side, CD will find traction from batsmen Priest and Hawke's Bay-born Sara McGlashan who started the round with solid knocks.

Consequently Priest earned a recall to the White Ferns' Rosebowl tour of Australia after she was dropped at the end of last summer.

"I spoke to Rachel last night and again this morning and she was absolutely chuffed about it," Shrimpton said, adding it came on the foundation of hard work and overcoming a niggly injury to the left knee.

It was disappointment for Taranaki's Kate Broadmore to whom Ferns coach Katrina Keenan had offered a few things to work on in terms of bowling.

"They are very correctable and so she's given a considerable amount of thought to them," Shrimpton said, agreeing Broadmore had not taken advantage of the opportunities offered in the New Zealand Emerging Players' win-less tour of Australia this month.
