Media personality Phil Gifford will be the compere for next month's Hawke's Bay Sports Awards function at Taradale's Pettigrew-Green Arena.
"After discussing the event with our sponsors we were keen to continue the theme of celebration and a compere, who could also entertain in his own right, so we are delighted
to have secured Phil Gifford to the event," said Sport Hawke's Bay Chief Executive Colin Stone.
"There was also a drive to make the event a real celebration so this year we will also have live entertainment in the shape of the band Liquid to finish off the night in style," Stone said.
The Telecom Hawke's Bay Sports Awards function on March 11 will honour the 2004 achievers in coach, referee/umpire, administrator, fair play, masters, club, team, junior and senior categories.
The premier award is the Hawke's Bay Newspapers/Radio Network Sportsperson of the Year which was won last year by All White and Napier City Rovers soccer goalkeeper Mark Paston.
Last year's event, at which Hawke's Bay sporting icon Greg Murphy was the guest speaker, attracted a record attendance of 550 and Stone is upbeat about surpassing that figure this year. Tickets for the function are on sale at Sport Hawke's Bay's Pettigrew-Green Arena offices.
