Hawke's Bay athlete Emily Baker is among 59 New Zealanders who will compete in the Australian under-20 and under-23 athletics championships in Nathan, Queensland, this weekend. The former Napier Girls' High School javelin thrower will take part in the championships to be staged at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre
from Friday to Sunday.
Heading the New Zealand entries is national 110m hurdles champion and resident record holder James Mortimer (Athletics North). Mortimer set a New Zealand record of 14.05sec in the national championships recently and will compete in the under-23 200m along with James Dolphin, Todd Mansfield and Jeffrey Thumath.
Dolphin, the national 100m and 200m champion, and Mansfield will also compete in the 100m as well. Monique Williams, (Tokoroa) who won the under-20 200m and 400m races last year, will return to defend her titles. Jessica Penney (Wellington) has entered the under-20 100m hurdles, long jump, 100m and 200m.
