Our Young Achievers is a series by Hawke's Bay Today. We think high-flying youth who strive for excellence in sport, study or their chosen field deserve special mention in this ongoing series.

Promising young Hastings students were recognised for their achievements at an intimate ceremony at St Andrews Hall last night.

In collaboration with the Hastings District Council, the achievements and contributions of 19 Year 13 students, all nominated by their schools, were celebrated at the sixth annual Hastings Heretaunga Lions Club Young Achievers award.

Viv Brown, of the organising committee, praised this year's winners.

"They have collectively been described by their schools with words such as motivated, considerate, reliable, strong leadership, diligent, dedicated, committed, enthusiastic, polite, considerate and highly organised."
