YMCA Hawke's Bay has been a lively place these school holidays as it approaches 125 years serving the community. There is no sign of slowing down as it launches into term three with the Become A Star campaign, a Te Punanga Haumaru collaborative project to stop bullying among youth.

STAR stands for Show Tolerance and Respect. Over the next nine weeks YMCA is involved in three community events: a snow park in Hastings civic square on Saturday, July 18, presentations from Kiwi comedian and mental health advocate Mike King on July 21 and 22, and a city-wide community afternoon of street sports in August.

The free snow park event will involve a youth talent quest, a snow cave, art, dance, drama, as well as library and art gallery activities. King will speak to parents at schools in Flaxmere and Havelock North.

YMCA is also looking forward to collaborating with Sport Hawke's Bay and Basketball Hawke's Bay for a community afternoon based on street sports across areas of Hastings. The date is to be confirmed.
