Police are investigating an aggravated robbery in Hastings

Two young women broke into an elderly man's home and assaulted him, police say.

The 77-year-old is in Hawke's Bay Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the two women broke into the man's home on Heretaunga St East in Hastings about 12.30 this morning.

They assaulted the man before stealing his car.

Police are asking people to keep an eye out for the man's green and silver 1996 Toyota Carib station wagon, registration YH6964.
