A woman is now in a serious condition after a crash on Pakowhai Rd yesterday afternoon.

She was transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a critical condition and remained in intensive care over night.

A truck and car collided at the intersection of Pakowhai Rd and State Highway 50 at about 4:40pm yesterday.

Police, fire and ambulance attended and a fire spokesman said one person was trapped when they arrived and had to be extricated at the scene.

A hospital spokeswoman said the female in her early 20's remains in intensive care but now is in a serious condition.
