A Hastings woman has been accused of neglecting two children for the past 22 years.

The woman, in her 40s, appeared in Napier District Court yesterday on three charges. She was granted interim name suppression.

It is alleged she neglected two children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering, bodily harm, injury or mental disorder. The offending is said to have taken place between January 1993 and March last year, the victims being two children under 16.

The woman was also charged for being party to the sexual violation of a minor alleged to have occurred between January 2002 and April 2003 in Porangahau. She also allegedly administered methamphetamine at a Napier address between December 2003 and August 2004. This charge carries the heftiest penalty, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The woman is yet to enter a plea to the three charges. She was remanded on bail with the condition that she not contact three people believed to be involved.
