Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal crash on September 30.

Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal crash on September 30.

The police would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying the person being sought relating to a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Meeanee Quay on Friday, September 30.

A 75-year-old male pedestrian was struck and killed by a southbound truck.

The driver of that vehicle came forward to police and assisted with their inquiries.

As a result of those inquiries the police have identified a second vehicle of interest that may have been travelling directly behind the truck which was involved in the crash.

Senior Constable Cory Ubels of the Serious Crash Unit would like to hear from anyone who was driving or may know of a person who was driving a reasonably new white 4WD utility vehicle with a rear canopy, which could have been a Ford Ranger or similar type of vehicle, in the area of the crash at the time.

Anyone with information about the events that lead up to the crash or in particular about the white 4WD utility vehicle and/or the driver of that vehicle, should contact Mr Ubels at Hawke's Bay police on 06 211 3644.
