Napier City Council has put out concept designs so the community can see what the new aquatic centre might look like once it is built.

The new complex, which will be accessed from Tamatea Drive, will have a 25m lap pool, with room to expand to 50m in the future if necessary, which will have 17 lanes.

Other amenities include a dedicated learn to swim pool, a hydrotherapy pool, play pool, two hydroslides, gymnasium, spin room, cafe, birthday party room, outdoor playground and outdoor water play area.

The project has a budget of $41.3 million approved by the council.

The current Onekawa location will be turned into a park, including play equipment, a splash pad and picnic sites.

The demolition of the current pool and development of the park, including remediation of the contamination issues at the site, has a budget of $1.2 million.

The pool has a planned opening date of 2022. The council expects to hear back about the tender award in July, and construction is expected to start at the end of this year.
