In response to the water contamination issues in Havelock North, Hastings District Council has begun draining the Havelock North reservoirs on Hikanui Drive.

Council said it was a controlled release that poses no danger to the health and safety of park visitors.

However the flow of water through Tainui Reserve has caused some minor damage to pathways and drains.

The pathways and drains will be repaired once the draining operation is complete.
Meanwhile the reserve will remain closed to the public.

Council said it apologises for any inconvenience this causes.
