A frosty start this morning will be the coldest Hawke's Bay gets this week as the end of a chilly southerly blast makes way for warmer weather throughout the rest of the week.

Temperatures overnight dipped to -1C, which MetService meteorologist Kyle Lee said would bring some early morning frost to inland areas, especially in Central Hawke's Bay.

On the tail end of a cold southerly blast, Mr Lee said it would feel a lot colder overnight with cold winds and clear skies forecast throughout the week, with overnight temperatures sinking to 4C.

However, overall Mr Lee said it was expected to be a "nice and dry week" with not much rain forecast.

As a ridge pushes up the country, Mr Lee said the region should experience good, clear weather and sunny days for the rest of the week.

Temperatures during the day would remain relatively high, with today expected to reach 17C.

Throughout the region today would also be mainly sunny with some northwesterlies developing.

The East Coast would avoid a front which would begin moving up the country tomorrow, Mr Lee said, although there could be some cloud cover later in the week.

Tomorrow was forecast to be sunny with light northwesterly winds, and the week's high of 20C.

Mr Lee said Thursday was set to be mainly fine with evening cloud and the northwesterly winds dying out, and a high of 16C.

Friday's should be similarly fine, with northerly breezes and a high of 18C during the day dropping to 5C overnight.

At this stage the weekend was expected to follow the trend set throughout the week of fine days with light winds and highs of 18C, although some showers were forecast for Sunday.
