Warm welcome for visiting Argentina team

The Argentina Los Pumas are in town ahead of tomorrow night's test against the All Blacks, after an official welcome at Hawke's Bay Airport last night.

About 50 people turned out at the airport last night to welcome the team as they arrived from Auckland, including a small contingent of Argentina supporters.

Tony Kitchen, Taradale, was wearing an Argentina jersey and had come to the airport to collect autographs from the Argentina players for his son.

"We just like the way the Pumas play. They play with their hearts on their sleeves," he said.

Cecilia Malek, Argentina, who emigrated to Napier two years ago, was also dressed in blue and holding an Argentina flag with the help of her daughters.

"Hopefully we can break the All Blacks' winning streak."

Napier Mayor Bill Dalton gave the team an official welcome as they entered the airport.

"Gentlemen, welcome to Napier, welcome to Hawke's Bay, and welcome to Ranfurly Shield country," he said.

"We're just delighted that we've got you folk here."

As the team passed through the airport, they received a haka powhiri and then signed autographs for the crowd.

The Argentina Los Pumas will play the All Blacks at a full-to-capacity McLean Park in Napier tomorrow night.
