Havelock North's first Village Street Carnival has been hailed a success and will be held next year, says Havelock North Business Association president Sam Jackman.
Havelock North Domain was full of cars as visitors thronged streets the business association closed to traffic.
While the carnival featured stalls, a fashion parade, pipe band and choir, a $1000 cash grab attracted the most attention.
Children were entertained with bouncy castles, clowns and face painting.
Crowds gathered for Sean Kaata Dwen's Basketball Jones Show, a fusion of basketball and juggling.
Mr Jackman said the event strove to be inclusive and engaging for the whole community. Businesses on the outskirts of the Havelock North were also included. The event replaces Boulevard Day.
