Two placentas stolen in Napier freezer raid returned, police confirm

Two placentas stolen from a home in Napier have been returned.

The afterbirths were being stored in containers similar to tubs of ice cream when they were taken during a freezer raid in Tamatea yesterday.

Hawke's Bay police said a large amount of food was taken from a freezer during the daytime burglary, as well as two frozen placentas and asked the public for help in recovering them.

"The placentas have now been found and returned to the family who are happy to have them back," a police spokeswoman said this afternoon.

They were being kept for whanau while a decision was being made about where they would be buried.
