Two men have suffered gunshot wounds in separate firearms incidents on consecutive nights in Napier.

A man was rushed to hospital after being shot in a drive-by shooting in Napier on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to a residential property in Tamatea, Napier, about 11.15pm on Tuesday.

Police said multiple gunshots were fired in the direction of the property.

Hawke's Bay Police area commander Inspector Damin Ormsby said a man suffered gunshot injuries as a result.

Police understand the shots were fired from a vehicle.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.

The victim was transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Police were due to conduct a scene examination at the property on Wednesday.

Ormsby said police have increased their presence in the local area.

"We take these incidents extremely seriously and acknowledge an event like this is distressing for our community," he said.

"We can assure the Tamatea community that there is an increased police presence in the area."

Police are making inquiries regarding a second shooting in the city the following day, after a man presented himself at a Napier Medical Centre.

Police said the shooting happened in the suburb of Maraenui on Wednesday night.

A police spokeswoman said the man suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transferred to Hawke's Bay Hospital where he is now stable.

Police said they acknowledge the incidents may be connected.

"Police believe these are isolated incidents typically involving parties known to one another; however we acknowledge how unsettling they are for our community," the spokeswoman said.

Police inquiries are ongoing in an attempt to determine who might be responsible in both incidents.
