Two placentas stored in containers similar to tubs of ice cream have been stolen from a home in Napier.

Hawke's Bay police are asking people to help find the missing afterbirths, which were taken during a freezer raid in Tamatea yesterday.

Police say a large amount of food was taken from a freezer during the daytime burlgary, as well as two frozen placentas.

They were being kept for whanau while a decision was being made about where they would be buried.

Police said both placentas were stored in white containers similar to a 2-litre ice cream container. Two names were written on the front of each container.
