Two people have died and State Highway 5 closed after a car collided with a logging truck in Te Pohue.
The accident happened at about 11.50 am at the bottom of the Titiokura Hill, north of Te Pohue.
Police said details of how the crash occurred were unavailable and theidentity of the victims were so far unknown.
"The road will be closed for some time to enable the road to be cleared and for the police Serious Crash Unit to carry out its investigation," a police statement said.
"Motorists are advised to either take alternative routes or delay travel plans."
