A combination of sudden hot weather and recent resealing on State Highway 5 are thought to have been behind an incident in which a truck and trailer became stranded on a steeper section of the road northwest of Napier on Monday afternoon.

Social media photos indicated the truck had struggled to get a grip and slid backwards and across the lanes. Police said they were advised about 2.35pm that one lane was blocked.
