Both the timing and location couldn't be any more inconvenient for the driver of a car transporter, who managed to jam it on the train tracks in Hastings.

The vehicle became wedged between Tollemache and Railway roads at 2.10pm yesterday .

Police were called to help remove the transporter from the tracks.

KiwiRail spokesman and general manager of operations for the upper North Island Henare Clarke said they were made aware of the situation by police.

"After the transporter was removed, staff inspected the line for damage and re-opened it at 3.15pm.

"No services were delayed."

The low trailer, high tracks and curve of the road were thought to be the reasons why the truck became stuck.

The truck was pulled from the tracks by Trade Towage.
