Ever wanted to try pig's trotter or a totally authentic strudel? Mission Estate Winery Restaurant has just the opportunity.

Executive chef Daniel Lorch is a German native, and will be serving up a little piece of his heritage during a six-course feast at the totally unique Winter F.A.W.C!-toberfest, set to take place on Saturday, June 28. "We are going to do traditional dishes with a molecular touch," Mr Lorch said. "We have taken regional influences and tied them together."

Among the tantalising morsels on offer are German dumplings with bacon, onion, herbs and delicious duck; red cabbage, served as a gel and a traditional strudel for something sweet. "They are from all over - strudel is from Bavaria/ Austria, the pig's trotter is more central Germany and dumplings are South Germany - they will be matched with German beer and wine - it's six courses with a little starter."

There will be a Hawke's Bay touch too, with much of the produce sourced locally. The evening meal, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, provides an opportunity for Mr Lorch to get back to his cooking roots. "I do still do that style of food at home quite often, my kids like it as well - I do miss it a little bit, but I am going back to visit in July."

Unlike the tradition of its namesake there will not be any steins in sight at F.A.W.C!-toberfest, and the atmosphere will be, "a little more civilised".

"The [Mission] owner's dad is Austrian and with me being from Germany, there's a strong history - it's something a little bit different."

As well as complimentary German beverages, there will be drops from The Mission's wine selection on offer.
