COMMENT:

A couple of months ago I wrote about starting Saturday morning sport with my eldest son, and I pondered the thought, would we actually finish his first season after abit of a rough start to kindy rippa a couple of years ago?

Well break out the Lindauer, I am so happy to announce that we managed to see out the season! We didn't have to leave halfway through due to Mac not liking his rips being pulled off, and I could not be happier.

And so I wanted to use this chat this week as a bit of a shout out to the unsung heroes of kids sport, and they are the volunteer coaches.

We had a great team of Logan and Michaela who not only managed a team of 10 brilliantly, but that also included coaching their own son.

You'll remember from my time as coach Banksy of Mac's basketball team, that I vowed and declared never to do that again. Coaching other kids, as well as your own, takes the patience of a saint, and few of us are up to the task. But Logan, and hats off to him, managed the whole thing so brilliantly that I was standing on the sideline taking parenting notes!

Aside from a little blip halfway through the season during a team line-up photo where Logan made Mac stand next to a girl (I keep telling Mac that girls rule, but he's a little late to that party lol), coach Logan became a bit of a cult hero in the 6th grade Taradale Triceratops' eyes.

He made them do a lot of running which Mac loves, he called a spade a spade, he encouraged everyone and called them out when they did dumb stuff (which they frequently did). In fact, he was so good, he almost made me want to don a pair of sprigs.

So to all of the amazing coaches out there, who each week send out notifications, bring the sports equipment, wash the uniforms, sort the players of the day, manage side-line parents, motivate their tribes, ref the games as well as coach, take time off work to get to games on time (I was all for Friday afternoon games, but that was hard for a lot of people to get to), you are awesome!

You are the real players of the day!! So enjoy your Crunchie bar and your summer season off, and please don't sit on the bench next year, our future Brad Webbers and Krysten Cottrel's need you! - Megan Banks
