Child poverty

*   To the person who said there isn't any poverty just bad spenders: Wake up, sunshine. You don't need to support children and what you get a week is probably what a couple with two kids gets on a benefit.

*   After watching a TV3 programme on New Zealand child poverty I was disgusted to hear about the teacher having to fundraise $100 a week to give her class milk and cereals for breakfast, when Fonterra makes something like $250 million profit a year and just threw out millions of litres of milk. Come on, Fonterra, don't be greedy. DH

*   I watched the special report on child poverty. How tragic we have this appalling issue in NZ but we should remember that if poor people stopped having babies there would be no child poverty. What happened to self-responsibility and wanting the best for any children we have?

Stay-at-home mums

*   To the texter asking what a stay-at-home mother does. Mine never stopped washing, mending, ironing, running errands for us and my working father, preparing meals, homework plans, driving us to sports practices and events ... the list goes on. Shame on you on behalf of stay-at-home mums everywhere! Liz

*   Re what a busy mum does: Who do you think you are and where do you get off even asking that? She might be studying - anyway, who cares? Just worry about yourself.

Buskers

*   Re buskers. Tax or no tax. Stop being so petty.

*   To the grizzler wondering if the buskers are paying tax. The answer is no, as it's a hobby and hobbies aren't taxable. As for thieving - hardly. People freely give to them. Cheer up, mate. JK

Other thoughts

 *   Hair dye, fly spray, bug spray, dishwasher chemicals, bleaches ... how many of you smoke? Orchard sprays are poisoning you? Get a life!

*   I always laugh with the excuse takeaways are cheaper than healthy food. A week's worth of veges is the cost of one family KFC meal.

*   To the irresponsible dog owner using the track between Black Bridge and Haumoana: Yes, I did have to kill sheep that your dog mauled. You must have noticed! What a useless human you are.

*   Why do parents allow their young children to run around restaurants shouting and screaming? Do they think the rest of the clientele of the restaurant find it adorable? LC

*   Would the person at the Church Rd end of Avenue Rd who parks his vehicle with the towbar hanging over the footpath please remove it before someone gets seriously hurt.

*   Trying to exit the sports park is a nightmare. How about second exit option south through Frimley?

*   To MW: The war between good and evil is simple. Evil doesn't like good to succeed. An evil person knows a good-hearted person and uses it to their advantage. Stand some ground or mix the two and play their game. They will soon get the message. And to people complaining about two-income families: It is about looking at lifestyle and whether or not they want a better life or to keep struggling. Help is out there: Start looking for it.

*   Hey Mr Yule, any chance of making it compulsory for most of us to have the same sort of setup as the Flaxmere rubbish dump system, with the plastics bin and brown bottles/green bottles system? I mean I love Hawke's Bay. I'm just another person trying to make a little difference in this place.

*   Regarding cellphone tradesmen: I would like to know why customers who leave their number don't answer their mobile or reply to texts more than twice. It works both ways.

*   Mr Tremain is talking about improving some areas in Napier that don't need it. Have you been down the green belt by Latham St? It smells awful and so many kids walk to school through there.

*   I totally agree with Ellen from Rotorua. Hastings is full of Mongrel Mob members. They are a crime syndicate - drugs, extortion, kidnapping, assaults ... I thought organised crime rings were illegal. The mob laugh at the law. JHW

*   Re M Harrington (letter, November 18): I agree. This is a free country - unless, of course, you are a smoker or anti-abortion protester, apparently. What about people who smoke outside the hospital whilst holding those signs, though? As it is election year, I suggest writing to your MP and suggesting that the Anti-loitering, Smoking and Forcing Opinions Upon Others Outside a Hospital Bill be penned with all possible haste!

*   Since the port has been there for years, I would assume that Mr Averous moved into its neigbourhood, not the other way around? While I understand he has a living to make, maybe he should have picked a different location, somewhere not on a direct route to a busy port?

*   Weeds are choking HB. Councils have nice gardens but next to them are weeds, ie old man's beard, moth plant, puha, dandelions, etc.

*   To some dog owners: When you are taking dogs for a walk don't stop so the dogs can wee against fences. One lady lets her dog pee on our fence most days. Is it because we live on a corner?

*   Re internet disconnecting. Mine does, too. Thought I had a faulty modem. Maybe not, then.
