SPCA

*    SPCA would get a lot of donations if they pressured the Government to stop 1080 which tortures animals to death over a long period. DWM

*   Please Help The Hastings SPCA, they do a fabulous job.

*   Why can't Hastings council give SPCA free rates?

Cats

*   If it's OK to shoot cats if on your own property it must be OK to shoot unwelcome burglars too. They are out at night too! If it cost as much to register a cat as a dog there wouldn't be many cat owners or cats. ARGO

*   Sadly, cats are not like dogs, they don't always come when called. They are more independent. You have to be crafty and lock them in when they come in for 'dinner', even if it does seem early. Seems best way to 'keep them off the streets' at night. Jan.

*   In Northern Queensland it is against the law to let cats outside at night because they kill the wildlife. It works very well and it can work just as well here if cat owners take the trouble to enforce it. Emma

*   I am sick of reading about people complaining about cats. Haven't you got anything better to do? They do what animals do. There are worse human beings around. Animals are innocent and rely on their owner for love and food. If anyone hurt my pet or I saw someone hurt another animal I would do the same to that human. How dare anyone hurt an animal. Start getting these bad humans off this earth, we don't need them. DS

*   Tell me the repellent to keep cats away. I've tried everything. We have at least 6 neighbour cats roaming our property. They poop even on our decking so as cats hate water we bought ourselves a water pistol and when they come roaming they get squirted. Cats know no boundaries. Come our way and you will get met with water.

*   I like cats but at night they are a pain with their fighting and whining, but it's not nice to torture them. Get a dog, they will learn to stay away.

*   I doubt it is gardeners who are being cruel to cats in spite of noxious deposits and damage to their plants so don't confuse the issue. Keep cats inside at night.

*   Glass Maybe you could pick the glass up BJR!

*   To BJR re broken glass at Anderson Park by bridge: Why not just pick it up yourself and put it in a bin! And help keep Napier clean and green. JCR

*   To BJR: Had you thought of picking the glass up yourself? You are just the sort who loves to blame councils for everything instead of helping others. MC.

Other thoughts

*   Shame on parents who parked in Evenden Rd on Monday then sending child into orchard to steal apples. Teaching good values to that child are non existent. MJ To the person who text about the empty houses in Maraenui: It's not the council who owns those empty houses but Housing New Zealand. Take the issue up with them.

*   Re the lifting of the Napier liquor ban over Art Deco Weekend, that's for everyone to enjoy, not just the Art Deco crowd.

*   I'd really would like to know how much oil NZ buy from Iran. With the threat that country is putting out why does NZ continue to buy it? It would make sense to ban bowzers that stock their product. SJR

*   Re letter to Ed, I was also a recent recipient of rude service at Hastings AA Centre. It seems if you aren't a member you only receive second rate service.

*   Re hockey park: How about thinking of the benefits the new hockey turf will bring to HB. Yes put a third in Napier as we need it but to have a turf like HDC wants to put in Hastings will benefit our kids. Rate payer, Hastings

*   Cyclists and horses should not be allowed around the Westshore Ahuriri Estuary. Horse owners should be made TO pick up theIr horse droppings as we responsible dog owners do. The other day we saw two cyclists stop and read the NO BIKE sign then bike on round the estuary walking track. It's dangerous for us responsible people. There will be another bike accident soon. ME

*   I was in McD in Hastings on Wednesday at 12.51pm. I felt moved when those there stood for the 2 minute silence and the staff stopped serving in respect to those in Christchurch. DB

*   OMG Stop the press! What's with McDonlad's not doing birthday parties anymore? I mean that's why we all go there! Right? No stress, no mess, pay the bill and leave! WDH

*   I would like to know what the old mitre ten and warehouse buildings going to become?

*   To Kathy at the New World in Greenmeadows, you are the loveliest checkout lady ever. Thank you for being so lovely.

*   It's pleasing to read texts vhere people's lost property is handed in.There are still some wonderful, honest, conscientious people amongst us.

*   How about using the proposed hockey park funds to put groynes in along the cape coast? Heaps more people would get a recreational benefit that way. Come on Hastings council why would rate payers prefer to pay for a hockey park!
