Ocean Beach

*    Just had a great evening at the wonderful Ocean Beach but had to go before the sun set because the mayor is locking NZ families out of our beaches. What do our local MPs think about this? They promised we would always have access to NZ
beaches.

 Blues Brews and BBQs

*    Please ignore the negative letter from Jeremy Smith re Blues Brews and BBQs. For those who didn't attend the musicians were fantastic! There's always one complainer.

*    Jeremy Smith, did you notice that there weren't actually any BBQs there either? Blues Brews and BBQs - it's just the name of the event.

Other thoughts

*    The variegated elm trees down Heretaunga St West look fantastic. Can we have more around town please councillors? We will be the northern garden city yet!

*    The 80kph limit on Karamu Rd all the way to Clive is excellent!

*    No buses from Hastings to Gin Wigmore concert on February 12 at Blackbarn. Rang Nimons and they will run a bus from Hastings if they get enough bookings. Come on, ring them. Don't drink and drive. HM

*    Budget fly spray is a good one. Keep the doors and windows closed for a few minutes after a good spray and the other flies should stay away for a while too...just spray and walk away!

*    Some good house wives are running the country now...Mrs Key and Mrs English.

*    Why does the Mr Whippy ice-cream van always play the Green Sleeves tune?

*    When trying to avoid a cyclist while driving a truck it would be nice if the cars coming the other way moved left instead of following the centre line.

*    Plane trees in Napier get pruned same way. It usually gets done before leaves start to drop because their large leaves block the drains and gutters in street and homes.

*    Pre Christmas I had emergency, collapsed and spent half a day in A&E;, great treatment from all the staff. Today I got a bill for ambulance, $67 is this new?

*    Re threats to Sean Davidson: Unless you were in that situation how could you know what it's like to see your mum so ill. Gutless people threatening him but not to his face.

*    Prisoners and staff day out fishing wrong turn. What a joke.

*    To the kind person who left the note under my windscreen wiper on Friday, January 13, while I was parked in New World Supermarket Havelock North to alert me to the fact I had a flat left rear tyre, thank you so much.

*    Pat Magill has my vote for 2012 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Award. Na mihi kia koe e te Rangatira mo o mahi mo te katoa. Naahaku naa. Hera Marshall

*    No rubbish around Maccas in Hastings So why worry about Havelock North?

*    We have never owned a cat but a member of our household, a keen gardener, has toxiplasmosis thanks to some neighbour's diseased cat using our garden as its personal toilet.

*    The perception that the lack of a necktie indicates a lack of professionalism says more about bigotry than anything else. Bigotry too is unprofessional.

*    Could we, through your text to ed have a referendum as to whether or not we should bring back the death penalty for murderers and other serious crime? KB

*    States in America with the death penalty have higher violent crime and murder rates than those without. So yeah like Charter Schools maybe people would like to borrow a failed system. People need to teach their kids to respect. Respect doesn't come from punishment it comes from parents' attitudes.

*    To the idiot in the white Mazda Estate on the roundabout at Hastings New World: Give way to traffic on your right! Read the road code. JW

*    I can almost hear a pin drop. Something's up when you don't hear any noise from politicians.

*    Why on earth should tax payers fund Brian Tamaki's separatist little empire? Just who does he think he is, the be all and end all? Black, Red, Blue, A payout from Government to Destiny church! What next? PD, Hastings

*    Big thanks to Ray Metrick for taking Cornwall year 4 and 5 cricket. We all had a great time.

*    Wow! (Text of the Day, 12 January). 'Dog pooh lasts 25 years'. At last, yet another sensible solution to the Hawke's Bay economic anxiety. Right up there with waterparks, long runways and a 'fish' circus. Bag it and market it as "HB Doggie Doos, the ultimate slow release fertilizer" Bay problems solved. DBS.

*    Went to Cornwall Park, dirty nappies, broken glass, smelly mud and to top it off someone stole my son's watergun. Thank you though to the lady who had plasters and tweezers to get the glass out of my son's foot.

*    Hi. I understand you are looking for a trip to Jersey Boys. We have two trips going on 12th and 19th May. Kathryn Bay Tours and Charters

*    Very sorry to hear that the editor is leaving. Have enjoyed your editorials. Good luck. JN
