*  Re letter of the week: Take a bow, GJC Ferguson. Never a truer word spoken.
*  What's with people arguing against amalgamation between Hastings and Napier? It would be better if all debts combine, then we can go to the bank and ask for consolidation - it's so laughable.
*  Why is cannabis illegal? Is it because when you smoke and drive you die? No, that's right, alcohol does that. Or what about drug-fuelled crime? Oh, once again that's alcohol. Wanna know the real reason why it's illegal? Because how on earth can the Government make money off it? Watch this space. It will become legal one day because they will fnd a way to tax it, like everything else.
*  What is it with HCC's efforts to disrupt traffic flows and at huge cost? I for one think it's a pain - on the road and the pocket.
*  Great letter, Dennis Fry. Yule seeks to divert attention from his monumental mismanagement of Hastings ratepayers' funds by promoting amalgamation. The people of Hastings voted for him - they can keep him and his lack of financial savvy.
*  John Porter, I love your analogy about the fish in the small bowl. It is also a fact if you put that fish in a large pond you greatly increase its chances of being eaten by bigger fish who don't live in such a safe and secure environment.
*  So builders can park all day on yellow lines and in the cycle lane and not get ticketed. I bet I cannot park all day like this and not get a ticket. It is dangerous, illegal and irresponsible. Get them moved before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. MS
*  Re Trevor Douglas' letter about war veterans at the Battle of Crete memorial service. The Government should be ashamed of itself - it just shows a lack of respect. How embarrassing.
*  What are those loading ramps for in Maraekakaho Rd? And the waste of concrete along the road? Keep us ratepayers up to date.
