Attacks

*   Young thugs disgust me too. Bring back the birch for these crimes. Bet they wouldn't come back for a second helping. Might think twice before doing it the first time.

*   If kids are aged between 12 and 14, where's the parents? Take these kids off them then when they don't get benefit for them they might start looking after them. Sally

*   Re what's wrong with our system? It's that attitude that's got us to where we are now. When I was a kid there were consequences for doing wrong.

*   I agree with the text re blaming gangs for the New Year stabbing because of certain coloured T-shirts. I've lived in Tamatea for years and I actively wear red and black, I've never been attacked or even yelled at. I don't particularly like gangs but we can't pass judgement, it's the classic scapegoat situation. Tarah

*   My 12-year-old moko had his cap ripped from his head in Dinwiddie Ave by 15-year-old. I have lived in Maraenui all my life, brought my kids up here and never had trouble. Am shocked and angry.

*   Re ex Middle East servicemen: While you are at it cruise over to Wairoa and clean up those young wanna be tough low life scumbags!

*   What's wrong with our country? Too many murders. Law's too soft. A bed, three meals a day, recreation and gym rooms, paid when they get out of prison. What do the families of the victims get? Nothing, loved ones lost never to be seen again. Come on, do something, pull your fingers out and bring back the death penalty. Give them the same treatment. It's not safe to walk around in our own country!

*   Do we have to walk around wearing black and white plain clothes?

*   How can Napier police detective say the two violent attacks over Xmas and New Year in Hawke's Bay are definitely 'not related incidents' when two men are assaulted for the sake of their red shirts? Hello, I am blonde and a connection to these assaults is clearly obvious to me. Wake up!

*   UFO I saw the 'UFO' on Thursday night. Very odd light.

Other thoughts

*   Much love to all the famillies who lost loved ones in the ballooning accident in Carterton.

*   Re letter of the week. Where do you get certified ATV training?

*   Did you know that 10c from Happy Meals goes to Ronald Mcdonald House charities? Families like us appreciate the free accommodation when we go to Starship Hospital.

*   The Cleaning Company in Napier clean ovens.

*   Domestic oven cleaner: Try Big John's - did a great job on ours.

*   Stop whining about pages missing from phone book. All my pages are missing, like no book at all. Same name, same address for 45 years! Might be fault of red, black or blue t-shirt gangs, or worse, it's a conspiracy by UFOs or the Government. Life is great, it's people that complicate it. Better have Nanny nap now, but don't tell anyone, cause they just might think I'm lazy and on a benefit. Peace to you all. Elle.

*   The staff at Havelock North Library are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. Thanks. Margaret.

*   I applaud Bruce Bisset's weekly column. It's great to read honest and hard facts, popular or unpopular. Keep it up, people need to know. JB

*   To the lady that dumped a box of rubbish at Ron Giorgi Park on Saturday morning, shame on you! How about taking it to the dump? Don't let someone else clean your mess up!

*   Re Pipe band, New Years' eve: Drones and Sticks pipe band were told Sound Shell celebrations were cancelled because of weather, hence their non-arrival. Sorry for any disappointment. Harry, president.

*   To the low life who regularly dumps garden waste in black plastic sacks down Iona Rd in Havelock North: We've got the message, you are a messy b*****d - get a brain.

*   Guy Fawkes is well and truly over so why are fireworks continuing to go off in the Auckland Rd, Bowling Cres, Avenue Rd area. We are sick of the fireworks upsetting all the dogs in the area, making them bark. Give them and all of us a break.

*   Disgraceful locking families out of a public beach HDC. Something fishy going on at Ocean Beach. Be honest mayor, it's not a fair go to us all!

*   Re dog park: We would love to see another rubbish bin over by the old bridge so we have something to put doggy business in. And to those who don't pick up their dog's mess shame on you. What do other readers think? VW

*   Big thanks to Kev Sullivan of Lumsden Rd. He saved my mum's little lapdog from being savaged by a pitbull, can't thank him enough. JHW

*   Commercial fishery caught poaching at Waipatiki. Leave our pots alone! You have lost our custom in your shop. Commercial greed.

*   Re text askng "what happened to Global Warming ? " Well it was changed to 'Climate Change' when it was clear that in fact the Earth was not warming. I guess this was the best way of keeping continuing funding (for the desperate pseudo scientists) from the equally corrupt UN. GC

*   Bet you didn't know fracking and mining involves the use of some very toxic chemicals.
