Text of the day
Why buy fruit and veges? We live in one of the most fertile regions in the world. We also have the most spare time of any generation before us. How about we get off our backsides and grow it ourselves?
Phone calls
I have had four calls where 30 seconds later an Indian voice says goodbye! I think they are related to competition scams which I have had plenty of. They seem to target elderly solos.
If you receive phone calls when no one speaks just make a note of the date and time. After four calls ring your provider and it will trace who is sending them. J
I, too, have those phone calls - about three of them - silence followed by "thank you, good bye". No idea where they come from, either. Julia
Amalgamation

Chris Tremain has lost my vote in next general election and probably most of the Napier electoral roll! No we do not want to amalgamate with Hastings! I will now be voting for Stuart Nash who supports Napier and respects our wishes.
No wonder Napier doesn't want to amalgamate with Hastings. They don't want cycle lanes painted on their Art Deco city. GS

Other thoughts
Fear not Westshore Surf Club, Barbara and the crew have created a lovely pathway to watch the club's demise from.
Why fix a service that is not broken? The Frimley Dental Clinic is functioning perfectly and you, in your "wisdom", are closing it down.
Crime does pay with examples like convicted fraudster Fitzsimons. He's now graduated from crimes uni and walked into another well-paid job. Judge sympathises when he says life will be too hard if he has to repay a lousy $100 weekly to his victims who lost their homes. NZ law is an ass when law-abiding NZers are screwed to keep people like him in clover.
I would like to have taken the littlies down to the playground in Havlock North recently but with two losers down there drinking alcohol at 11.20am I didn't bother. It's behaviour they don't need to see - there's a time and a place.
Re accessing credit ratings. I've tried to do this online but was advised I would be charged for the privilege. Who needs another unnecessary expense?
The real Maori language is beautiful and every effort should be made to save it - but please don't try to teach us to speak a pidgin version of English.
Re rock through windscreen: My daughter's car was damaged while parked on the roadside which was likely caused by a rock falling off a truck. Are the trucks overloading?
If Art Deco brings in so much money why rely so much on volunteers to run tours and help in shop and administration?
Interested to hear anticipated advantages coming from replacing parking with concrete slabs and yellow lines outside a doctor's surgery. Apart from the obvious hazards created on the street itself, motorists please be aware of the multitude of eldery, sick and injured now needing lifts 2km up Gascoigne St! EK
Nothing dangerous about Taradale clock roundabout Yes it's a wee bit narrow but it's drivers who ignore basic road rules who are dangerous! KH
NCC did you bother to ask ratepayers if they wanted to waste $1.5 million on two Art Deco buses? Come on, wake up! Money better spent on Marineland, a true income earner for the city and tourist magnet. Warwick, Napier
Shame on you HDC, appointing out-of-town contractors to take over council work from the local company. Did you consider how many families this will affect by layoff/redundancy? What happened to keeping the dollars in the Bay?
$3 per way for my son to go from Lindisfarne to Karamu High School by bus - $30 per week. How is this justifiable when going to Napier is less by bus?
