Cycle lanes
To PSE re cycle lanes: Most drivers are not cyclists. They don't deserve a dedicated lane they don't contribute to. I do respect cyclists but not at my cost. JC
Cyclists are a minority, cars are a majority in this day and age. Come on council, think straight.
If most cyclists
were drivers we wouldn't have such a problem. Who pays? I buy rego, insurance, NS, WOF to use my car on the road. I pay nothing to use my bike on the same road. We all pay rates. Where are you coming from? As for being sensible and sharing, tell that to the "lycra louts" and teenage cyclists who blatantly abuse every road rule they can and get away with it, thanks to sensible sharing motorists. All cyclists should be required to have a licence, reg, WOF, etc. Pay your way and show some courtesy or buy your own roads. JS
Smoking

Re Allen Carr: Easy way to stop smoking - he did it too late and died of lung cancer but good on you for stopping. Keep it up.
To WL: I am not too tight or unfit to handle a smoke. I just prefer to spend my hard-earned money on other things - like paying power, rent, feeding my children. You know, the things you need. Maybe it is because as a single mum, who works, I know the value of my money.
Stock trucks
Re stock trucks spraying muck everywhere: Travelling on Puketitiri Road stock truck drivers think it's their right to empty their tanks going up hills. It's disgusting. That's taking clean, green NZ to a whole new level. Come on, drivers - give us a break. Take your muck with you.
Try riding a motorcycle in the rain behind a stock truck then you would know about being covered in the green stuff!
Other thoughts

Wow, what an accident on the Clive Bridge! Maybe now they will put up the long-awaited pedestrian and cycle clip-on lanes that we have been waiting on for years. DJ
Sports field vandal gets nearly 6k of fines wiped and gets an extra 100 hrs community work. Not a bad hourly rate. That sucks. They get off too lightly.
Yes, yes, yes, a train between HB and Wellington would be a fantastic, lovely trip. Mary T
Oh hark, is that the sound of the National Party blaming the Labour Party yet again for another massive job loss, ie the closure of the Waipukurau meatworks?
I pick my daughter up from St Patrick's about 3.30 and the crossing isn't manned then. It is disgusting how many cars don't stop for the crossing. Several are also speeding.
Stuart Nash amalgamation - yes or no? It should be about benefits to Hawke's Bay, not just if it benefits Napier.
Thumbs down to the school down at Pandora Pond on Monday. No manners and the teachers did nothing ... vicious cycle!
Re National Anthem at netball. It is not a funeral dirge. Get someone who can sing, please. Mike Birch

Talk about a big rate rise. Tararua DC has just put up rural rates by $302 to cover roading costs, on top of the regular increase of 4.9 per cent.
Re amalgamation: You can keep your sports park and Waterworld, Hastings. We don't want to finance your white elephants! We are for quality in Napier, not quantity. SC
I feel bad when I read the paper or watch the news and see someone's been attacked by a dog, especially a child. But, as the owner of two rottweilers, I have had problems with children teasing them after school. My dogs get very aggressive when teased, as any dog would. They're locked up behind a high gate but can see people walking past. So, parents, if you are reading this, please advise your children to tread softly around dogs.
Half the council's motive for the Lumsden Rd prototype seems to be centred around cutting down road-seal costs. They are banking on residents keeping the grass areas.
