Hawke's Bay has a new spot for the region's adrenaline junkies to enjoy.

The Taradale Jump Park has undergone a $50,000 makeover over the past two weeks and is now open to the public.

New jumps for all levels and abilities have been built at the park that was designed, funded and constructed by the Hawke's Bay Mountain Bike Club (HBMTBC) a decade ago.

HBMTBC chairman Scott Richardson said professional track builders spent a fortnight undertaking major renovations, which used more than 150 metric cubes of new dirt.

"We've already seen a lot of traffic to the park, with riders ranging from pre-school to mums and dads giving it a go," he said.

"There is something for entry level, intermediate and advanced. And it's built so it allows for progress and skill development."

The newly renovated park, on Gloucester St, has always been a popular community asset, according to Richardson, and hundreds of children and parents use it each week.

"It's just awesome to see so many people having a go," he said. "I encourage kids to engage in the sport, as its reward, free and good for your fitness and confidence."

Jumps at the new-look Taradale Jump Park are for mountain bikes and BMX only.
Richardson asked for the public to respect the park, with no jump amendments or motorbikes allowed.

HBMTBC is also looking for volunteers to assist with the ongoing maintenance to keep the park "ship shape".

"We are proud to provide a popular community sporting facility and are excited to present such a great rider experience to the wider community," Richardson added.

The new site is in collaboration with Hawke's Bay Regional Council, HB Earthmovers, Bare Knuckle Contracting and Alexander Construction.
