A man arrested after an attack on a couple in their Napier home on Monday has been remanded in custody for three weeks pending further investigations.
Kurt Edward Taylor, 49, of Napier, entered no plea when he appeared before Judge Geoff Rea in Napier District Court yesterday.
No application forbail was made by defence counsel Derek Quilliam and Taylor was remanded to appear again on November 23. He faced one charge of wounding Napier businessman David Tait with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The accused is understood to have been a former employee of Mr Tait, who operates the eight stores of Seekers Megamart, which collects, sells, and distributes used clothing in support of overseas aid projects.
He and wife Kathy initially established Kaydee Charitable Trust in 1994 as a charitable arm of garden product mail order company Kaydees Gardens.
Mr Tait, son of late former 1950s MP and former Mayor of Napier Sir Peter Tait, had his skull fractured in the incident at his home in Bull St, Ahuriri.
His wife was also injured and treated and discharged at Hawke's Bay Hospital in Hastings, from which Mr Tait was discharged on Tuesday.
