Soaring prices for all sorts of lambs were the feature of yesterday's store sale at Stortford Lodge.
Even smaller lambs were in hot demand as orchard grazers looked for stock. Top price was $111 for a pen of heavy male lambs sold by Leelands Partnership, Elsthorpe.
The yarding of 399 ewes and
3425 lambs sold to buyers from Hawke's Bay and Rangitikei.
The quality of the cattle yarding was mixed but prices were up to expectation. Heifers dominated the yarding of 130 head.

Prime sale
Sheep prices again stole the limelight at Monday's prime sale with two pens of lambs breaking the $150 mark and others in the yarding of 365 not far behind. Ewe prices were also hot for the yarding of 1724 good quality sheep.
Cattle prices slipped slightly in line with an easing in the cattle schedule. The yarding of 284, made up of 135 cows, 77 heifers and 72 ox, was of good quality. A donated 585kg steer made $1348 for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

Cows: (Friesian, simmental, devon, hereford, angus-cross and crossbred) Average weight, 607kg to 375kg, 178.5c/kg to 140c/kg, $1148/head to $567/head.
Ox: (Angus and angus-cross, crossbred, hereford-friesian cross) Average weight, 740kg to 477kg, 249c/kg to 230.5c/kg, $1835/head to $1262.
