Stock is in short supply and the grass is growing meaning a strong store cattle sale at Stortford Lodge yesterday. Buyers from all over Hawke's Bay, Wairoa, Wairarapa, Feilding and Taupo bid strongly for the 814 head on offer.

The sheep offering was smaller than previous weeks but new-season's lambs were sought after. Good black-face lambs from Tyrone Farming, Ongaonga, made $118.50 and romney cryptorchids made up to $120. One pen of good ewe hoggets with lambs' teeth made $172.

Prime sale

A falling schedule and shortage of killing space meant prices eased for most stock at Monday's prime sale.

Lighter ewes held their value but heavier ones eased again. Lambs were also down but the quality was also down on last week. A total of 6170 head were on offer.

In the cattle sale oxen and cow prices were steady but heifers were down slightly for the good quality yarding of 166 head.
