A state highway has been closed after a serious two-car crash in the small Hawke’s Bay town of Clive.

Emergency services were alerted around 7.50pm to the accident at the intersection of State Highway 51 and Farndon Rd.

Hato Hone St John said it responded with three ambulances and a rapid response vehicle.

One person was transported to hospital in a moderate condition, while two more were en route in a serious condition. The other had not left the scene yet.

Fire and Emergency was responding with two firetrucks, one rescue tender and one operational support vehicle.

The road is closed between Farndon Rd and the Ngaruroro Bridge.

The New Zealand Transport Agency warned motorists to delay their journeys or consider an alternative route.
