A stretch of State Highway 2 at Mohaka, south of Wairoa, has reopened while fire crews battle a fire in a pine plantation.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said two trucks and two helicopters had responded. A crew of 32 forestry industry firefighters were also responding due tothe fire being in a pine plantation.
At just after 3pm, the fire was about 1km wide and 300m long.
The road had earlier closed between the intersections with Mohaka Township Rd and Te Kumi Rd, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said.
A second small fire also broke out on Monday near Ongaonga, Central Hawke’s Bay. The 5m by 5m grass fire was reported at 1.47pm and two crews responded and extinguished it.
