It was one of the slowest car chases around but it's aftermath came to a speedy conclusion today when a man was sentenced to three months' jail.

The late-night pursuit four months ago lasted an hour-and-a-half around the streets of Napier.

Jamie Lesley Jones, 30, had previously pleaded guilty to charges of reckless driving, failing to stop for police, resisting police and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis relating to the chase which started just after 11pm on March 7.

It brought hundreds of people out onto the streets across Napier suburbs as video of the chase was posted to Facebook and watched by a trasnfixed audience.

The Toyota Hilux, running on the rims after tyres had been burst by road spikes laid by police, was eventually brought to a stop about 12.30am.

In Napier District Court today, Judge Geoff Rea called it "a significant display of showing off".

But with Jones having already served the time on remand, Judge Rea granted him electronically-monitored bail pending his defence of charges alleging burglary and unlawfully taking the signwritten 2005 Toyota Hilux Ute which which had been reported missing from a Napier address just over a week earlier.

Having pleaded not guilty to those two charges, Jones faces a judge-alone trial scheduled for September 26.
