The director of a cabaret-style play Blue Eyes says the audience will be singing all the way home after watching this performance.

Kelly Reid is excited to have her incredibly talented cast performing songs from the late, great “Ol’ Blue Eyes”, Frank Sinatra, accompanied by a top-class ensemble of musicians live on stage, masterfully brought together by musical director Justin Lindsay.

“After 90 minutes of the sweet sounds of Sinatra, you will be singing all the way home,” Reid said.

New Zealand playwright April Phillips has created a touching storyline, into which she has woven many Sinatra favourites, and Theatre Hawkes Bay is proud to bring this wonderful play to the stage.

This performance is interjected with memories of the past in a cleverly interwoven and sentimental story of celebration and loss.

“As our main character, Frances prepares to farewell her beloved mum, she visits the family home and finds some old letters,” Theatre Hawke’s Bay president Kim Wright said.

“They are fan letters to Frank Sinatra, written by her late mum when she was young, but never posted.

“As Frances reads them and learns of her Mum’s hopes and dreams, we are taken back to a ‘60s nightclub where, as a young woman, Frances’ mum regularly performed with Jimmy and Andy, backed by a great live band, and treated their audiences to some great Sinatra songs. But what happened to those dreams? Frances reads on - and finds out.”
