Selling rural real estate can be hard yakka, says Dannevirke estate agent

Selling rural real estate takes time and perseverance, says Jim Crispin, of Dannevirke Property Brokers.

"There's a little bit of confidence from out-of-town buyers looking for lifestyle properties, but buyers are very selective for sheep and beef properties," he said.

"Banks are certainly not handing over money for sheep and beef properties willy-nilly."

Sales were considered with caution, but were happening, Mr Crispin said.

"However, Horizons Regional Council's One Plan is making dairy farm sales quite tortuous."

It is 12 months since the Environment Court released its decision on the appeal against Horizons Regional Council's One Plan.

In August last year, Horizons regional councillors moved a recommendation to investigate partial One Plan change options.

Horizons chairman Bruce Gordon said the decision was made because the committee was informed after the Environment Court's ruling if farmers had to meet the nitrogen leaching numbers in the One Plan many businesses would no longer be viable.

Mr Crispin said the rural real estate industry was hard.

"You need some patience."

Dean Lindsay is the new rural real estate agent for PGG Wrightson in Dannevirke and recently sold the 790.93ha (1954.47-acre) Haunui Station owned by the Crosse family, on Esdaile Rd east of Dannevirke.

The property had been farmed by the Crosse family since the 1870s.
