A TOUCH OF TARTAN: An afternoon of toe-tapping and sing-a-long with the Drones & Sticks Pipe Band. Pipes and brass and the melancholy music of the 30s, and the young dancers are a wonderful addition to the band's repertoire. From 2.30pm to 4.30pm at St Paul's Church, Cnr Tennyson and Dalton Streets, Napier. Tickets $20.



AUTOMOBILIA - VINTAGE CAR PARADE: Watch the amazing autos sweep through town - from haughty limos to cosy coupés. The vintage cars crawl from Clive Square to the Marine Parade via Lower Emerson St and Upper Emerson St finishing at the Sound Shell for a show and shine. Parade commences 12.30pm. f



BATHING BELLES:Boggle at the bewilderingly beautiful bathers in a torrent of ticklish togs! Prizes awarded for the best 1930's Beau and Belle, and for the craziest outfit. 4pm at the Sound Shell.

BATHROBE BRUNCH: Enjoy refreshing bubbles and a delicious buffet brunch from the balcony of the Dome's Capeview Penthouse overlooking the Sound Shell. Relax in your personalised robe (limited number available ) all while you are enjoying the ceremonies from a bird's eye view of the whole festival. Noon to 2.30pm. Tickets $75. BICYCLE BELLES: Chaps, belles and families are welcome to join this leisurely cycle along Marine Parade on the Rotary Pathway to East Pier. There you can enjoy light refreshments before biking back to Marine Parade. 9.30am to 11am. Meet behind the Sound Shell on the pathway. Gold coin entry.

BOATERS AND BLAZERS YACHT CHASE: The Napier Sailing Club introduces the Art Deco Weekend Chase which features a Mark Foy start (slowest go first and the quickest last). The yachts will race around the port, and along Marine Parade. This event is preceded by Tiffin at 11.30 and followed by 'A Rum Do' after match event. First boat away at 1pm - best viewing from Marine Parade between 1.30pm and 3pm.

BUBBLY BREAKFAST BY THE BEACH:Start your day in style to the swing of the band and the sparkle of a bubbly and buffet breakfast by the beach. From 8.30am - 10.30am. Tickets $35. Location is the lower lawn beside the War Memorial Centre.

CAF? CRAWL DE LUXE:The café society has sallied forth every Art Deco Weekend on the Café Crawl. Trip the light fantastic at the Twilight Toe Tap as you stroll between Napier's top Deco dining locations on this hosted progressive dinner. This event is not BYO. . Meet at the War Memorial Centre at 6pm for a complimentary drink before departing for the first course at 6.45pm. Tickets $83

CARUSO CUISINE - VITTALS & VIBRATO:Since the 1920s the Paxie (Paxinous) family from Greece has been operating a restaurant on the site of the National Café in Emerson St. The present Café was built in 1936 and remodelled around 1960 and is a perfectly preserved example of 1950s/60s design. Host Buddy Collins will entertain with a song as you enjoy a shrimp cocktail entree and an old-fashioned Kiwi Café meal of steak or fish, followed by dessert and tea/coffee. BYO. 6pm. Tickets $55.

CHILDREN'S ART DECO WALK: An inter-active walk designed for children. Starts at the Art Deco Trust with a short presentation, then a discovery tour down our famous streets to learn about the architecture. Departs at 10am, free but booking essential from Art Deco Trust.

CHUFF AND BURBLE:View the display of stationary engines on the Napier foreshore by the Sound Shell. These vintage engines always draw an admiring crowd as they chuff and burble away. From noon to 10pm. Napier foreshore behind the Veronica Sunbay at the Sound Shell.

COSTUMES AND COIFFURE COMPETITION: Polish your shoes, preen your feathers and join the fun in this highlight of the Weekend. .Enter at the Geon Art Deco Weekend Gazebo which is at the rear of the Sound Shell. Registration from 1.30pm - events starts at 2.30pm.

DECO DAWDLE TOUR: This guided coach tour of approximately 90 minutes makes it possible to explore in comfort Napier's unique historic areas away from the city centre. Information leaflets are provided.10.30am. Tours depart Municipal Theatre 10.30am. Tickets $30. Bookings essential.

FLYING DOWN TO DECO: Relive the pioneer days of aviation with a rare chance to see WW2 and vintage aircraft in static display. Crew and support staff will be available to answer your questions. 10am to 4pm at the Hawke's Bay Airport. Gold coin entry.

LATE NIGHT LIBATION: If you don't want the night to end, then stroll down to the Hawke's Bay Club on Marine Parade for a late night libation to send you home with a glow. The first drink is included in the ticket and then a cash bar is available. 10.30pm to midnight. Tickets $16.

NAPIER FARMERS' MARKET: Buy food in the old fashioned way, directly from the growers and producers. In addition to the regular market stallholders will be offering a 'Taste of Hawke's Bay' for lunch, each selling something to eat that combines their products with other stallholders for under $8. 9am to 1pm in the marquee, opposite the Art Deco Trust, Memorial Square.

NATIONAL TOBACCO COMPANY BUILDING:Explore what is arguably New Zealand's most famous building, now restored, even to its original name. Enjoy an interior tour with an Art Deco Trust guide in attendance. Entry kindly made available by Big Save Furniture. 10am to 3pm, entry by gold coin donation. Bridge St, Ahuriri, Napier.

ONCE WERE WILD ONES: Gasp as the Wild Bunch of the '20s and '30s roars through the city centre on vintage motorcycles. From approx 1.30pm to 2.00pm. Saturday Street Party, Emerson St, and outside the Masonic Hotel.

PUTTIN' ON THE RITZ: A marvellous concert at the Hastings Arts Centre based around Art Deco-era songs from the '20s and '30s. Top Hawke's Bay singers and musicians entertain. There are bar facilities and finger food, and prizes for the best dressed male and female on the night. Hastings Art Centre in Russell St. 6.30pm. Tickets $12 with takings going to assist local performing arts.

SALUTE TO THE SERVICES: A special ceremony where service medals will be presented, which will include several of the attending NZ Armed Services. All welcome. 1.45pm to 2.15pm at the Sound Shell, Marine Parade.

SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE SHELL:A rousing conclusion to the Twilight Toe Tap. The Royal NZ Navy Band performs on the Sound Shell stage. Sit back and relax on the lawn under the stars. From 9pm until Midnight.

SATURDAY STREET PARTY Party time in Emerson St with the Hawke's Bay Jazz Club, local singers and entertainers. .

From 10.30am to 4pm.

SNAP, CRACKLE AND POPS - JAZZ BREAKFAST: Kick-start your fun-filled Saturday with a hearty breakfast, indoors or out, at the Med Bar at the Masonic Hotel whilst a Jazz Band sets your feet tapping. From 10.30am. Tickets $28.

SOUND SHELL SHOW AND SHINE: Marvellous vintage cars, spectacular costumes and fine jazz on the Sound Shell stage. Features include Salute to the Services at 1.45pm, Costumes and Coiffure at 2.30pm and Bathing Belles at 4pm. Music from the Bretts New Internationals Jazz Orchestra. 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

STEAM TRAIN - AFTERNOON HUFF'N'PUFF: Ride the rails in genuine heritage carriages drawn by Steam Locomotive Ja1271. Travel to Hastings and back with the clacking of the wheels and the smell of the smoke. Deco dress encouraged. Departs the old train station off Munroe St at 12.15pm arriving back in Napier 2.20pm. Tickets $25 Adults, $12 Children (Under 12).

TRACTION TRUNDLE: Take a ride with Wayne Clark on his traction engine Henriette which is 100 years old this year. All aboard to celebrate her birthday! Departs 10am to 12 noon and 2pm to 4pm from the Sound Shell.

TWILIGHT TOE TAP - Street Jazz: Foxtrot on the footpath, quickstep on the cobbles, ragtime on the road, tango on the tarmac, black bottom in the boulevard. Please yourself, but join in one of the weekend's most magical spectacles and dance to live jazz in Emerson Street from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

VINTAGE CAR RIDES: Here's the chance to take a ride in one of the fabulous vintage cars that will be everywhere during the weekend. Support the HB Vintage Car Club by making a generous donation to help them fund their new clubrooms. Donations are usually in the $5-$10 per head range. From the i-Site Visitor Centre beside the Sound Shell between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.
