Napier Old Boys Marist prop Adam Slobbe keeps lock Fergus McCool safe after a lineout goes slightly wrong during a 60-21 win against Central.

Napier Old Boys Marist prop Adam Slobbe keeps lock Fergus McCool safe after a lineout goes slightly wrong during a 60-21 win against Central.

Come on coach Bradey, give us 10 laps of the field - you owe us big time.

This is likely to be the call from the bulk of the Progressive Meats Havelock North premier rugby team when their head coach Adam Bradey returns to duty from his honeymoon tomorrow week. Bradey married Jessica Barber on Saturday which meant his team were without him, one of his assistant coaches, one of his managers, and eight regular starters when they lost 22-10 to Tanalised Napier Pirate Rugby and Sports in a third round Tui Nash Cup fixture at Anderson Park.

"We were under strength but we're not going to whinge about it. You've got to be able to roll with that and our depth was tested," the villagers co-manager Richard Kinnear said.

In his 50th appearance for the hosts, lock Bronson Primmer was full of go. Pirate lock and former Hawks basketballer Roger McPherson collected a season-ending Achilles injury.

Pirate manager Charles Reid was thrilled with how well the visitors performed in a match he said was well controlled by referee Mark Johnson.

"It's not often you beat Havelock on their turf and when you take into account how many they had out they did well too," Reid said, before singling out the Neilson brothers - centre Jackson and first five-eighth David - and lock Mike Albert as the best of his troops.

-MAC 51 Tamatea 11

MAC dedicated this record victory against Tamatea at Bill Mathewson Park to their midfield back Ihaka Waerea, who welcomed his second daughter into the world the previous day. With Waerea on the sideline his cousin Jackson Waerea played second five-eighth and scored two tries in his 50th appearance. Powerful No8 Emile Fanene was again prominent for MAC, as was blindside flanker Paula Latu in a cohesive forward pack.

Fullback Tom Iosefo, who has played for Samoa during the Hong Kong and Japan legs of the World Sevens circuit, was always dangerous in attack and was one of three players to score two tries for the visitors. The former Tamatea and Hastings Rugby and Sports player will be with MAC for the remainder of the season.

Locks Tama Hutana and Dan Digby and loosies Ivan Bellamy, Tiwai Tomoana and Sheridan Kite, all had memorable moments. But far too often the Tamatea forwards were guilty of being too individualistic and they lacked the necessary patience. Halfback Ash Robinson and first five-eighth Henare Harris were the pick of the backs.

-Tech 44 Clive 19

Tech Group of Companies Napier Technical prop Mark Braidwood celebrated his 100th outing for the hosts with two tries in this Whitmore Park win.

Close behind Braidwood, who first played for the Texans in 2007, for player-of-the-match honours were fullback Trinity Spooner-Neera and centre Ted Walters. Former All Black Sevens player Spooner-Neera was impressive in general play and succeeded with all eight attempts at goal - three penalties and five conversions. K9 Petfoods Clive head coach Andy Green said Spooner-Neera was the difference.

Second five-eighth Jesse Roach, centre Jonah Lowe and fullback Tiaan Falcon were all enterprising in the Clive backline. Blindside flanker Jesse Tuhua, No 8 Rocky Pohatu and captain and hooker Jorian Tangaere were full of authority in the visiting pack.

-NOBM 60 Central 21

Winger Dan Walker celebrated his debut for Hawke's Bay Insurances Limited Napier Old Boys Marist with a hattrick in this Park Island victory.

A former Lindisfarne College and Otago University student, Walker made the most of his attacking opportunities. Fergus McCool, who had stints at lock and blindside flanker, and prop Adam Slobbe, were others to make head coach Craig Gowler's MVP list.

Northfuels Central head coach Exham Wichman said the host team were too good. Wichman's midfield combination of centre Cole Eru and second five-eighth Kody Lancaster combined well.

-Taradale 45 Hastings 3

It was only during the final quarter that defending champions Carters Frame and Truss Taradale played to their full potential during this Elwood Park win.

"Until then we played dumb rugby," Taradale manager Paul Atkins said.

Magpies midfield back Jason Shoemark, who scored two tries, was the unbeaten competition leaders' player-of-the-match. Lock Angelo Mufana and No8 Kaleb Sweet were inspirational forwards as the visitors dominated the final 20.

Ansin & Monteith Hastings Rugby and Sports trailed 12-3 going into the final quarter but were then outplayed, as well as victims of some unlucky decisions, according to co-coach Aaron Bartlett. Loose forwards Ben Hamelink, Mark Ioane and Jack Crasborn again toiled tirelessly in the Hastings pack.
