A Central Hawke's Bay road was closed by police and emergency services for more than 12 hours overnight on Monday after a man refused to co-operate police.
An Ongaonga man was believed to have holed up on his roof after a domestic incident at a rural Swamp Rd property about10pm on Monday. The road remained closed and guarded by police, fire, and ambulance crews until yesterday afternoon.
Hawke's Bay Police Area Commander Tania Kura said a domestic related incident escalated when the man became uncooperative.
"It was a domestic-related incident and we were just talking with a person who is not willing to come with us right now," she said.
The road block was in place so the man "didn't have an audience".
